Mileage & Power

do you think that air filters and cold air intakes help in increasing the mileage & power of your ride?

An intake CAN help the performance of a car however I'd beware of claims that you are getting 10hp out of one (don't know if a smart kit actually claims that). We installed an intake on our GTO early in its evolution and found that by going back and forth between stock and performance intake we gained 3/10's in the quarter which was a fair gain for the money involved. That said not sure I'd do it on my Smart

I put a scoop on and got a couple of miles per hour more on the big hill that I pull on the way home.
I put a filter in and got a couple more miles per hour.
I put an exhaust on and more again.

overall I got almost 10 miles per hour gain climbing the hill.

it worked for me.

Breathless posted data about the scoop that they offer, it lowered the intake air temp thus allowing the motor to keep the timing advanced for better performance.

I installed a K&N air filter in my smart, and gained about 2 mpg. Didn't really notice a performance gain though.
