Mitsubishi 3B2 Engine

The following is a Mitsubishi press release. It doesn't correspond with the info I found on the web about the engine being built in France, but the pr is almost two years old now. Things could have changed.

"Mitsubishi Motors and smart sign agreement on engine supply

"Tokyo, October 28, 2005

Mitsubishi 999cc

Some more for the motorheads to munch on - some earlier developmental info. Some may be germaine, some not.

In 2004 it was designated IL3: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/cor...004/16E_09.pdf

By 2006 it was in the 3B2 family (3B21 maybe?): http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/cor...006/18e_16.pdf

Fishrdnc: That 3B21 looks like the thing. I remember the configuration I observed thru the acrylic panel in the static model at the Smart Tour in Phila. Nice to know. I wish I could have had a better look at the engine. Thanks for the PDF that was excellent.

Hey SmartBob

I was also at the Smart Car Tour in Philadelphia.

I was on my hands and knees looking at the underside of the static display car. Which by the way had all of 12 miles on it.

If you are into doing your own oil changes doing it on the Smart will be easy. The underside has a tray that runs right up to the engine. Very clean and tidy.
