Have you tried the line "its a Tata and cost $2,500 at your local Tata dealer...
You're right, I should have used humor to difuse the situation. There was no need for me to take it so personally. There are jerks everywhere and I know that!
Maybe I am just wired different but I never take any offense to any "How much I paid" questions...on any purchase ..... it is a natural curiosity and we are all trained (or should be) to be smart shoppers and know what things should cost or how much they are selling for.... I refuse to ever call any catalog or advertisement that does not have a price... I shop by price as a primary discriminator
Every body asks me how much the car cost... some are polite and add "If You don't mind my asking"
Many say something like "thats not bad", "wow that much!", "gee I would have though more" or about half dozen other comments
The two subjects that tick me off is rude folks who do not know me making a comment about "How many clowns fit?" or "How can you drive that death trap?"
Neither of these subjects bother me from folks I know, especially if they are just ribbing me....
I came near to a fist fight in the VFW some weeks back, when some semi sober redneck, who does not know me, started a long winded diatribe about how dangerous a smart car is 'cuz that is what consumer reports said...
Many of you may have figured out, I am more then willing to argue or debate any one on any subject...
This argument got real ugly real quick and the manager had to cut of the hard headed idiot and suggest he move on...
No not me...I got to stay and enjoy another cold brew in relative piece... relative in the sense that now all my bar mates learned a new way to push my buttons and they all took a turn... grin
I get people asking me all the time how much my car cost. I tell them 15.3K, and the range is from over 11 to mid 18's if you want a fully loaded convertible. And it's a year wait. No big deal.
Last week an office computer had a catastrophic failure. I went to Sam's to buy a quick relatively cheap replacement. I'm walking to the door, fishing out my freakin member ship card when I hear this incessant honking behind me getting louder. Some dumbass in a dually is honking at me and yelling "HOW MUCH YOU GET?" I gave him an incredulous look, said 42, and turned away just shaking my head.
If you want to study human behavior, buy a smart and drive around. I get very interested, thoughtful, curious people asking questions all the time, which is a lot of fun. Even driving down the road. And I also get some rude, moronic, inconsiderate dip****s invading my personal space. Go figure. Anyway, take the good with the bad, be reasonably nice to the jerks, cause there's lots of us out there that might hurt you, and move along. ;)

You are not!
Kidding kiddin kidding...
I don't mind telling people when they ask but one guy said 'Wow, thats a lot for such a little car." I guess he was expecting a dollar two ninety eight maybe?

That part I find funny. (Along the lines of people talking about something they no nothing about) The Smart car didn't even show up in Consumer Reports till the August Issue. I would know, I subscribe.
From Consumer Reports:
"This tiny two-seater is four feet shorter than a Mini Cooper but it doesn't feel as vulnerable as it appears. While the first generation was sold in Europe and Canada for a few years, the new second-generation model is available in the U.S. It features a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine rather than the anemic 40-hp turbodiesel that powered the Canadian Smart we tested. That car had a stiff ride, clumsy handling, and an automated manual transmission that shifted slowly, causing the car to lurch. ESC and curtain airbags are both standard."
As you can see they spent more time talking about the older generation that was sold in Canada and not the current generation sold here, but it no where says the car is unsafe or dangerous.
Just let it roll off. Or you could get a copy of the Consumer Report and keep it in your Smart to show the next dumb azz. Better yet, take it to the VFW next time you go
