What I find most annoying is not the questions, even the personal ones, but when people make fun and ridicule. I know these are stangers and what do i care what they think; but the rudeness is very annoying. The other day I had one car on the right of me yelling to car on the left of me:
"You could fit that in the back of your car"
"I wouldn't drive that thing farther than I could throw it. It's a death trap"
"Yeah, can you imagine getting hit in that thing?"
"I know, my kids Tonka trucks are bigger"
They kept at this through the red light, ignoring me, and laughing up a storm. I couldn't help getting mad, and it really takes a lot for me to angry, especially at strangers.
It seems to me this car elicits reactions/comments that people wouldn't have/say to any other car. Wierd.

A lot is just sour grapes: they owe more than the resale value of their current SUV, pickup/muscle car and are stuck with it. When we took delivery of our smarts back in Feb. most people were curious and friendly. Since the fuel price has risen above $4 in CA there has been a nasty edge to many of the comments/questions. People are no longer happy to just ask questions, now they feel compelled to offer opinions too & not all are going to be positive.

If they really irritate you just mention that it gets 40mpg and is worth at least $8k more today than when you bought it. I would suggest waiting until you are pulling away though, some people don't seem to be able to laugh at themselves....

I totally agree, I tend to get about five to six people a day ask me how much the car is and what is the gas mileage

I asked the Round Rock, TX Dealership to give me some business cards which has the top 10 asked questions on it so If I'm pushed for time I hand out the cards

I look it at it this way, I want the car to be a total success. hopefully see lest trucks on the road

Hey skyzdlimit59, don't let them to get to you.. I'm from England, the average gas prices in England is $9.00 a gallon

I think within the next two to three years it will be about $9.00 per gallon in the U.S. so I think most of the negative reactions from people who are stuck with the gas eating cars and trucks
