MPG's

Let's start hearing some real world MPG's! One review I read said they couldn't get it to get better than 35.5 MPG!! Please tell us this isn't so! I can't justify confirming my order (1256) if the fortwo can't average over 40. We should keep this seperate posting just for MPG averages.

I get anywhere from 41 to 54 mpg depends if my wife drives (lead foot)or I do. Mostly rural roads with little traffic so I drive about 50 mph when I can.(I'm retired).

We have a '09 Cabriolet and almost always fill up at the same gas station (Costco). We find that we are averaging anywhere from 33 to 38.5. 33 was during our week of close to 100 degrees and the a/c was on pretty high in city driving. We used to have a Passion '08 and the best we got was on a trip over 300 miles where we averaged 47.5. This included going over 2 major mountain passes. I guess I'd faint if we ever got over 50 mpg, but I suppose it's possible on a long, long flat road at a steady pace. I do notice that my wife gets worse mileage as she doesn't pay as much attention to the revs and the car waits too long in my opinion to shift when going uphill in drive.

I'm always disappointed when I get less than 120 MPG.

Let me just say it. As I say to the most common question I get from the public questioners. I didn't buy my smart for MPGs. Wasn't even a factor. If it is MPGs you want, buy a Prius.

hahaheoooh man... I sure didn't buy my Wabbit for the mpg - 24mpg max. in city. if I'm really trying to be steady and cool... but normally 21.8 in city... but it is the right car for me - quiet, compact, 5 passangers, 10 airbags, & fast.

Never wanted a Prius. Don't like CVT's don't like the issues that surround the batteries. the smart is still the best mpg pure gasser out there. Did not buy my smart for mpg alone but for the fun of it. Still having fun after more than a year of driving. Still the most sought after set of keys in the house.

My Wife got a Mustang Convertable last week as an out of town rental.

After driving 100 miles she filled it up before returning it with 10 Gallons.

100miles/10gallons = 10MPG. That 10 Gallons would get us 400 miles in the smart.
