You can ram cars into concrete barriers all day long, and that will have NO outcome on how a car acts in a crash. Cars that hit cars absorb and dissapate energy differently in every crash. I'll take my roll cage and accident avoidance ability, and happily drive my smart.

But hey, any compact car versus a Full size SUV/Truck will lose.

Civic vs Hummer = Hummer
Yaris vs Tahoe = Tahoe
Carolla vs Expedition = Expedition
Versa vs Landcruiser = Lancruiser
Fit vs F-350 = F-350

So yeah, size matters and no compact/micro car will hold up.

I'm NOT too worried in the Smart.

It's funny how when I mention that I have a Smart car, the first thing people say is that you're going to get killed if you run into a Hummer. Well my response is that if you're running head on with a Hummer at 70mph, cars like the Focus, Fit, Accord, Camry, Scions, Malibus, Civics, Caravans, Cavaliers, 325is, Corvette, Wranglers, 300Ms, Sebrings, and hundreds of other cars on the road, you're going to end up on the short end. It's all about shear mass. Just like all Hummers would be destroyed if they run into a semi head on.

I'm not going to worry too much about it. This car is safe enough for me.

If you go in and look at current crash data and figures, most deaths on the highway are occuring in the big SUV's. For years, the trucks and SUV's were not even regulated to be safety scored. Most of the deaths in Suv's occur from rollovers/ejections. SUV's are big, but sometimes the "
bigger you are the harder you fall". I would still agree that you can not compare the two, however, stucturely speaking, smart would get the nods for integrity over an SUV. I am hoping to get mine in May, I currenlty drive a 91 Toyota P/U 4x4 long bed that did not even get rated. I will feel a lot better in my smart;)
