I just got an email from the San Diego dealer - they have orphans at MSRP right now. Here's the list -

2008 Passion Cabriolets in silver, red and yellow, starting as low as $17,410, all sold at MSRP!!!

2008 “Custom” Passion Cabriolets in various custom paints such as Lamborghini Yellow, Aston Martin Green or Lamborghini Green Pearl Metallic. Get your own unique smart passion cabriolet, starting at $19,995.

One (1) 2009 Passion Coupe in silver with black tridion safety cell and the all new exciting rally red interior, selling at MSRP for $14,460. Hurry up, because this one won’t last!!!

We are also selling our last 2008 demo vehicle, a red passion cabriolet. This is a steal! Free Pioneer DVD navigation system and $500 off MSRP!!! This one will definitely sell before month end!!!
Give yourself a Christmas present!! And if you buy one, pm me so I can get the $50 referral credit from the dealer. Thanks! - sheureka

Well, this confirms the rush is over; if California smart centers are selling orphans at MSRP it won't be long before other dealers have inventory on the lot for walk-ins.

It's over, but God was it fun.

Our dealer too, has lots of cars around his building, and I know he has many orphans for sale.

Yesterday we canceled our order just a day before conformation of our 09.

We will now hold for a 2010 next year and probably just buy direct off the lot.

We all saw this day coming, but at least now we can better control our delivery date. A2Jack

As long as they're delivered before January; then the price goes up.

They were selling orphans for msrp when I got mine when gas was $4/gallon, can't imagine there's a wait anymore for them. At the L.A. car show they said new orders are taking 8 months which they said is normal. They said the reason waits went to 18-24 months was the panic to get high mileage cars when gasoline prices were high. But when you think about it, 8 months is exaggerated too as many people that ordered them during high gas prices and don't intent to take them may stay on the list until the last minute.
