We have very short memories, gas will NEVER go back up.
My DDE moved back out near the end to around 2 months prior to the original date.

Well how much is the smart????......how many years would it take you to save that much on gas???? If you are interested in saving money, buying a smart is maybe not the way to go anyway. You may be faced with another issue anyway...SUV values are in the toilet, and if your purchase was based on the sale of your Isuzu you might not be happy to see what you get for it. If it is not based on the sale of the Isuzu, and you plan on keeping it...you will not save money by having an additional car payment, additional insurance, and additional DMV fees.
I think if you want to wait also, you could orphan your current order and pick one up at no additional cost later on. I think the gouging is about over now, orphans at MSRP will be the norm in the near future if not already.
If you're only thinking of saving money, my good ol 190D does better than anything I own. But seriously, I think you could wait and find a nice orphan when you are ready and not get hit on it now. As our economy continues to slide into the great abyss, you may even see a deal somewhere soon.
Do you really think gas is going to stay down???? It always goes down in the fall anyway, demand is down because of the high prices.....and when people start consuming gas in mass quantities again with their guzzlers, the price will be right back up. Most of this reduction in price has to do with the current dollar value anyway, and that is even more unsure than the price of a barrel at this point.

Wow - you're lucky to have it move up - regardless of gas priceds. My dealer estimated our delivery originally Feb - March 2008, just got changed to Sept-Nov 2009 online -- Hope it shortens up cause 17 months is just too darn long for me!

I've been waiting 15 months, and if it wasn't so darn close now, within 30 days, I 'd just go find an orphan I liked. Prices are finally levelling off, and there arte plenty of them out there now.

Say it aint so!! Lucy needs her Ethel! It doesn't seem right that someone who sold someone else on the Smart might not get one.
Tell the Hubby that gas will go up again and you can lower your insurance on the Izuzu since you won't be driving it much.
Send him for another test drive!

I plan on keeping my Isuzu. It was paid for long ago and it's a great car. It's just that the mpg is horrible, but right now it would be cheaper to drive it than the smart, which was not the case last July when I ordered the smart. Financially smart me says "orphan the smart", but the emotional me says "I want the smart." Hopefully the smart won't come for a couple of months and then I will just have to see where everything stands. There is also a strong possibility that we will be moving to Austin late spring, and I can always get on their orphan list there if I give up this smart.

Tell me about it, I want the chance to drive our two smarts together. We could share the same parking space when we meet for lunch.

The Smart is about so much more than just the price of gas...
