My MPG ~ 36

After just over 5000 miles, I've averaged almost 36MPG. I drive primarily in town about 20 miles a day round trip to work and back. An ocassional short distance on the hwy; and 1 trip to Bend Oregon (over the mountain pass).

mikie - Just a few questions.... A/C on or off. I understand that short distance driving thing, I'm lucky if I can get 6 miles per trip on mine. I doubt the poor thing even gets up to running temperature.

Dunerunner,

Come on... This is Oregon. Between January and now there hasn't been a whole lot of need for the air conditioner unless you're a polar bear!

But, mikie... As an Oregonian, I love to leave the flow on defrost to keep that stagnant air in front of me moving around a bit. The darned defrost uses the AC ?!!! I'm partway through my 4th tank of gas - the first tank so far with the vent selection down rather than up - and things are starting to look much better. My mileage was in the 36-37mpg for those first fill-ups much to my chagrin. I did wonder why the air seemed oddly cool at times. No AC light but "defrost" must mean humid weather! Pish.

The thermostat setting keeps the smart at a fine temp whether you're a polar bear or not.

Had to ask, I've had mine on several times just to cool the cabin down and have run defrost to defog the windshield. Gets hot over here on the coast, when the wind isn't blowing!!

36 is good! You're between the 33/41 EPA expectations... I've found the difference between city and highway is pretty significant. Plus, running the AC takes a huge toll.
Week 1 No AC: ~42 mpg
Week 2 AC all week: ~30 mpg (a little more city driving this week as well, but wow...)

I'm on my fifth tank of gas, and this weekend I'll be doing all highway driving (3-hour trip each way), so I'm looking forward to seeing how it does.

Hi Mikie -

I mostly get 32 ish.

I've got 2800 miles on mine. My commute is 16 miles each way, about 14 of it is freeway. I'm working real hard on being better with the lead foot, but it's that dang sylvan hill that just kills me, I know it! I can't get up it withought getting the rpms to about 3500 and I'll be lucky to be doing 55. Then somebody cuts me off and spoils my mojo . And there's no way to get from my office to my home without tackling the west hills. grrrrr! I should leave the burbs and move into the city!

I have about 1600 miles and commute 80/20 expressway/local. I have been getting 36.3 to 39.3, not much AC yet. I am happy as I have cut my gas bill in half or better.

For last tank of gas I changed from auto shift to paddles, turned AC off for most of the ride time and accidentially put regular gas in the tank. 39.1 is best in-town mileage yet. Cummulative MPG is now up to 37.5

A new metric needs to include whether the vent settings are at "defrost" or not for those of us with A/C (unless you include that setting in the A/C numbers).
