My new best tank: 448.6 miles

On just under 8.7 gallons of 93 octane, I drove 448.6 miles over the past three days. According to the ScanGaugeII, I'd used 8.4 gallons, and that's the amount I'd put in this morning before the pump shut off (I squeezed in another 0.3 gal). Since my SG is set to assume I gave a 9-gallon tank, in never exactly sure to what extent I can trust it. The car's gauge, also a bit unreliable, was on 0.0. I've noticed lately that it does a poor job of reading my last 1.0 gal, which disappears much faster than expected based on the other 7.7 gallons measured by the gauge. So when my 1.0 gal light shows up, I prolly have 0.6 gallons left before it reads 0.0.

To achieve over 50 mpg, I drove an average of about 53 mph and did most of my driving on the highway during off hours.

Nice work, you probably had mild temperatures on your side too. Good luck doing that in the middle of winter.

Yeah, I meant to make mention of the clement weather. I never used the a/c or heat, and there was almost no wind. The previous tank suffered a bit bc of windy conditions. I also didn't have to drive in cold conditions that hamper the engine's efficacy. Winter should bring me back to the mid 40s

dang. wish I wasn't stuck with 5 to 15 mile trips every day. I've only twice gotten more than 350 miles from a tank.

He DID say he drives "off" hours

He works nights, so he's on the road while everyone else is sleeping

When you DID have to shift, did you use 'auto' or 'manual' modes?

Isn't that kind of dangerous.....being on the road with a bunch of drivers that are asleep at the wheel?

In this case, with long continuous driving at a relatively constant speed, I doubt it would matter much either way since the car will spend the majority of time in 5th. But, it's manual mode for me!
