My poor Smart has been vandalized!

On only my 11th day of owning my Smart, I emerged from my workplace (a suburban medical clinic) to find some miserable cur had slashed both the front tires!
It was heartbreaking to see him getting towed away
I will see today how much this will damage my pocketbook. And now that is light I can inspect the poor thing for other damage.
The only positive things were I got to test out the tire inflation system.....the pump works great but where is the bottle of sealant the manual talks about??
And Smart's roadside assistance works reasonably well.......except that they wanted to tow him to a repair center 150 miles away. Their system did not officially recognize the dealer/repair center 10 miles down the road!

That's such a shame. Maybe there were cameras where you parked? At least then you could catch the cretin.

Vandalism was my biggest fear while I had temporary plates for my Smart. It's a spotlight for trouble. But then again - so is a new adorable car for some jealous psychopath. If you live long enough - vandalism is an experience we all have to endure. Happened to my poor '69 WV Beetle and again with a '97 Linc Cont. (And I park far away in the parking lots.)

I feel for your Smart!

The front Conti's aren't terribly expensive, but if you have the time, I'd suggest ordering from Tire Rack or asking your smart centre to price match (if you're on good terms with them). You should be out the door for less that $200 installed.

Alarm System?

Sorry to hear about your vandalism. Been there, done that. An employee I fired instigated circles of black epoxy paint on a (beautiful) yellow Cadillac and a Ford station wagon (years ago). She also left me with eight punctured tires!

My smart orphan came with a factory alarm and Lojack. I would not have purchased Lojack (I call it the MoPro System - more profit for the dealer).

Obviously your car did not have an alarm - right?

Bill

right. last time i buy a car without an alarm! it was done in the middle of the night. there was a big hand print on the car so they were looking in ...... probably looking for the alarm. since it had none they went ahead and did the deed.

I have been thinking about adding a blinking LED onto the dash to simulate an alarm system. Most troublemakers will see it and move on to easier pickings.
