Regular... Super... for our first week or two I did not have any idea about what Octane to use (I never gave it a thought or asked and I did not bother to look at anything.) I just did what I always did, I would pull in, and use regular. About three or so weeks ago I discovered that I should use 91 Octane. Hey for what little gas my little Bee use's, I have no problem putting in the Super. My point is this; we have been getting mind blowing gas mileage, using reg and Super. I do not see or feel any difference what so ever. Say what you want, believe what you want. If it cost me $.72-$1.20 extra a tank full I see no problem what so ever. (If it cost me $5.00 more I feel the same way.) My little bee is good to me, so I can splurge a little for its internals. Hey with a great car like this, with the mileage it gives us, why would you want to be stingy with it? It is good to me so I can be good to it.

If you inadvertently refuel with less than premium, no damage will occur, when you get to half a tank, top off with premium a couple of times, then unless you feel the value your car does not deserve what the manufacturer recommends, keep the litter bugger on a diet of premium. In the long run you will be ahead.

I had been filling with premium/10%ethanol since Ike's birth, but the last tank and my current tank have enjoyed premium/0%ethanol... my miles per gallon have gone up about 7% (from 38 to 41). It's about $0.20 more than premium/10%Ethanol... so figure I'm spending about $1.50 more per tank or so... but I'm getting about 20 more miles per tank, which is 1/2 gallon, or $2.05 in savings... So, I'm ahead by about $0.55! Sweet....

My Smart Car (Passion) is due to land in port (Jax) any day now. I called the sales mgr on this very subject the other day as, sure as hell, one day I'll screw up & put regular in instead of premium. BTW, we live on a barrier island off east coast of Florida (essentially at sea level). He told me Premium was not needed in this area & all the customers had been putting in the 89 high test with no problems whatsoever. The 91 Premium is needed if you're living in an elevated area like parts of the West, North New England & the Appalachian range. Since Mercedes doesn't know where ea. car is destined, they just made is simple & recommended Premium to everyone. It's just throwing away money (that's what I was told by the Mgr plus the service dept). Ron
