My Smart is Beeping after I Turn It Off

About 1 out of every 10 times, when I turn off the car starts beeping similar to when the seat belt is not fastened. I can stop it by turning the key on and then off again. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Do you know what the cause may be?

maybe you left the headlights on? Or the door is ajar?

I get a soft beeping sometimes when I put the car into reverse - finally
figured out it was because my door wasnt completely closed.

my wife said something the other day about a series of soft beeps as well. I don't know what the circumstances were at the time she heard them.

When you turn the motor off, leave the key in the ignition for a second or so. The computer needs to shut down.

This was happened to me a few times and was not sure of the reason either. Doors are all closed, lights off, and it normally continues for at least 30 seconds. Yesterday I had gotten out of the car and locked it and I could still hear it. Weird, I will try the key thing. Thanks

I got this same thing for the first time yesterday. Key out, still in the seat. Lights off, etc. Couldn't figure out what I did wrong. When I closed and locked the door (after exiting) I couldn't hear it through the glass. I'll try the key trick too.

I get it all the time. Makes sense, since the car has to "boot up" for a moment prior to ignition, that it would need to "shut down", too.

I just turn the key back for a second and it stops immediately.

I chalk it up to my Smart's quirky charms. Much like mine own.

Same quirkiness here, not all the time. I am going to try waiting to remove the key, as suggested above. It does seem to happen whenever I am in a hurry. I think it's just sad to see me go.

Good to know I`m not alone! I usually just put the key back and turn it on, then off again and it seems to do the trick.
