Happens to me but only if I am too quick to open the door. Turn off, pull out key and then open door.

What is funny is, this JUST started happening on mine. Not really sure why, I'm not doing anything different, even always leaving the key in for a second or two. Something has changed.

Dave Van, in post 15, wrote that "if the [light, or possibly even the wiper] switch is on it will beep". So, do you have the package that includes auto-lights and auto-wipers?
I added the [] brakets to clarify my idea.

Mine does it only if someone removes seat belt before I turn off the car. Do people hear the beeping even if seat belts are on, and nothing is on the passenger seat?

Eventually someone on this forum will report getting the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death), and the number of BSOD "incidences" will increase. Then smart's president will do a massive ad campaign trying to get us to upgrade to smart 2.0 service pack 2, with confusing home, student, and business versions to follow. Finally, Apple and Toyota will get together and sell a stylish smart killer, probably calling it the "i-Car," "i-Mod," or something to that effect (maybe even the "i-Q"?).

And it all would have been because of a stupid little beep...

Beep Beep Beep / slow down/lube key slot

Mine does this randomly also. When it happens, the beeping continues for 45 seconds, every time.
I can get it to stop by rotating to ACC or starting and stopping the engine. The consensus seems to be ... 'slow down' with the other key idea being 'graphite lube' the key slot to ensure Smartie knows the key is out.

Anecdotally, it seems that if you park, turn off, remove key too quickly, you are much more likely to get the beeping. There are too many different ideas to choose a 'most likely' cause but the slow down, lube keyslot solutions seem to be the most common recommended fixes.

I have this problem also. The dealer has 3 times been able to find nothing wrong. Has anyone actually found out what the problem is so that I can tell the dealer next time I go in? Let the fun begin

Wait a few seconds before removing the key.

Happened to me in the test car today. It didn't happen the last time but today I was in a hurry so I turned the car off as fast as I could...
