My Smart car is at it again... all locked up!

I posted to this board about 4 months ago that I used to leave my keys in the car - because its in a locked garage all the time when not being used... but two times in the 1st four months that I had my Smart, the doors were locked when I went to get in the car... and the keys were in the ignition! My spare set where hanging on a hook in the kitchen, so no big deal... You guys all said I shouldn't leave the keys in the ignition and maybe that was part of the problem... so I've been hanging my keys on a hook in the garage since then and I've had zero incidents... BUT... just now... I was out in my garage... the Smart has been sitting there for 4 hours now since the last use... keys hanging on the hook just 4 feet away... spare set hanging on a hook in the house... no one home but me... and I was working on the other side of the garage sweeping leaves out when all of the sudden the Smart doors locked!!! The headlights came on, then went out... sure enough, its back to its old tricks.... Has this happened to anyone else?

This is weird! Could it be a radio interference? A neighbor, another vehicle being locked nearby?
Keep us informed...

Oh no! Christine!
I hope mine doesn't try anything on me.

That's what it sounds like to me. Some other signal is being interpreted by the car as the "lock door" command from the fob--or, for that matter, the "unlock door" command, since I think if you unlock using the fob it'll re-lock on its own in a few minutes. (I've seen plenty of weird radio interference stuff. In work, sometimes if I key my walkie-talkie, it changes channels on my TV set and/or turns it off...)

There was at least one incident reported about a year ago in the UK wherein a smart was locked and disabled by the close presence of a Honda with a RF security system. When the Honda left, the smart operated normally again.

I thought the smart was supposed to lock itself after 1 minute of being parked?

Check out this link: Smart Locking Video

Sorry to disagree: the car will re-lock itself within 60 seconds only if neither doors are opened after unlocking with the remote.

JPaul is right too!!!!!!!!!!! Mine does that. Also...

Put a sign over you key hook in the garage, that says take me. A big sign with lights. Leave the keys in the car. I had neighbor that did that, and they went in his garage stole his new car.

Well, if they get into the garage, they would get into the house and get the car key anyway, so what's the difference??? In the car, on a hook in the garage or in the house on a hook... if a thief gets into the garage they are in the house!!! And all bets are off.

This is exactly why I never leave the keys in the ignition, even to pump gas. I am paranoid about being locked out Plus my spare is a couple hours away at a friend's house
