This is exactly why I never leave the keys in the ignition, even to pump gas. I am paranoid about being locked out Plus my spare is a couple hours away at a friend's house
May I suggest that you exchange keys with the one at your friend's house now and then... just to refresh the codes?
and if you insist on leaving the keys around...really, get a lockbox for them, as burglars love to take all your stuff and then drive away in your car with it. At least attempt to create a hiding place for your keys. Oh well, that's what insurance is for....

My car did this to me once, but I was sort of looking for it after reading the posts here. Now, before I get out of the car, I hit the unlock button. All has been fine since and I leave the key in the ignition. When it locked on me, I was just opening the door, not hitting the unlock button. Not sure if thats why or not but give it a try
Doogster, do you keep your garage door down when you cut the grass, or doing lawn work. My inside door to my garage is locked. I would never leave keys to a car in pain sight in my garage or the car. Enough said there.
You need to go to the dealer, if you have issues with your door locks, and head lights. My old Grand Cherokee did something like that. It had auto head lights, and door locks. I was out in the yard working, the head light would come on by them self and I head the door lock click. It turn out to be be a short in the head light stock turn signal. Something very simple. Have the dealer run a check on your car.
I did have some guys in front of my house trying to take my car one night....I took care of their vehicle and they all ran. My neighbors have the holes in their block walls to prove it. I used 6 rounds of ammo, and I got their jacks, flashlights and lug wrenches they were using to try and get the wheels off my Altima. I don't buy fancy wheels anymore.
Not only is my garage door open all the time (except for night time) my front door is never locked! (except when sleeping at night).... we think nothing of running to the store with the house WIDE OPEN... on a summer day, if we go to the beach, the windows are wide open... upstairs and down... the crime rate around here is non-existent.

That's really nice but you're either in denial (nothing will happen) or very naive! It'll only take one break-in to change your thoughts. I used to be like that (way back in the 70's) local kids got in to my shop, took every power tool (except a table saw) I owned and hocked them at a local pawn shop. Cost me over $200 to get those back that I could and another $200 to replace those I couldn't.
Since then I don't leave my doors or windows unlocked, and when I go anywhere, even for 10 minutes, everything is closed and locked up. I've never had another loss since either. Just smart in this day and age. . .
