Brake dust can be a problem that shows up as black dust emanating from the front wheel wells. It seems the OEM pads are notorious for generating dust. I got EBC "Green Stuff" brake pads formulated for reduced dust and got some Kleen Wheels (kleenwheels.com) to give the dust generator a double-whammy. I'm less than 1k miles but am not seeing the same dust I got in the first days before the pads, rotors, and kleen wheels.
Is the car body made out of metal or is it plastic? Most car wax will attract dust but do a search on it and there are waxes out there that will repell dust. Black Magic use to sell a wax that was great at repelling dust. I can't find the stuff anymore but there is stuff out there i'm sure that will solve your problem.
I finally got my smart detailed professionally today, by a guy who came out to the office parking lot. My new toy is shiny!
Let me see if I can attach pictures he took with his iPhone:
Note, after a 2 hour wash, the front rotors already start to rust. Driving isn't a problem... they stop just fine, and clear up with maybe 20-50 feet of braking.

I ordered a California Car Duster cleaning kit online at JC Whitney for $49.99 plus shipping. It includes:
Original California Car Duster, Dash Duster, Water Blade, Micro Fiber Wash Mat, 2 Micro Fiber Glass Cleaning Cloths and 3 Micro Fiber multi-use cloths.
I guess that the plastic panels are picking up a static charge from the airflow, like an airplane, and seem to attract black tire dust. ...
Yup, air will do that - even on metal surfaces. If you ever work with helicopters under black-out conditions with NVGs, the light show is pretty unforgetable. The MH-53E Super Stallion is notorious for static build-up (40,000VDC plus) and can discharge a 2-foot arc between the hook and flightdeck.
And plastic is worse than metal. My freshly washed Caterham would dust up on the light FRG "wings" at double the rate of the aluminum body.
My Hyosung scooter is a very sharp red in color and is plastic and it attracts dust daily. Have used the smaller version of the California Duster and I can wipe it down in 30 seconds. Actually the dirtier the duster get's the better it works. Also works great on the interior of my cars.

It will be nice to be able to just dust the car off instead of having to hose it down and dry it when it's just dusty, but not dirty.
I used Meguiar's line to shampoo, clay, wax, polish and detail my smart with. I used the final inspection spray and also use it for quick cleanups. I also have the California {made in China} Duster. I haven't noticed a real problem with dust. And being in Texas we have plenty of dust!! Maybe it's the Meguiar's? Maybe it's the occasional use of the California {made in China} Duster? Maybe it's that I clean my car once a week? I'm only a little bit obsessive. ;)
