My Smart Got Broken Into

Yep,

I was parked right outside the pool, and there it was after my swim. They didn't take a lot, even though I had my tomtom, cell phone wallet and couple of duffel bags full of workout stuff in the car as well. Yet, the only things they grab was the easiest to grab (my sunglasses & my mp3, which was not even exposed). I bet it is one of the drunks needing a couple of bucks for alcohol.

Anyways, I rather my passenger side window being broken this way than any other way.

Now, I need to know if the passenger side window is easily in stock at the dearlers, or do you guys think I would have to order it?

Thanks for all your help, and I will continue to try to look at thing from the brighter side (even in times of despair).

BT

I'm very sorry to hear that your smart was compromised. I suppose it has no alarm. I skipped getting one and regret it.

Yes, I do not have the alarm, but I still think even with the alarm, the passenger side glass would still be broken before the alarm goes off.

Well, maybe if I have big flashing red LED in the car, it would prevent the would be's from even trying.

oh well...

My wife's Ford Escape had an alarm, and we hated the thing. We put up with it until one night it decided to have problems in a campground. After waking everybody up I shut it off so we could get some sleep and then the next morning did some troubleshooting. Every time I turned it on it would start making noise. I unplugged the wiring harness and we've not had a single false alarm since...

While the idea of an alarm may seem good I think they tend to be ignored for the most part, until they they malfunction - then they are something to hate.

Agreed, alarms are pretty much ignored...

UPDATE:

I brought the smart into Smart San Francisco, it will be Friday before I can get my car.

So the passenger side window glass does have to be ordered, but the wait is only couple of days (hopefully).

Btw, I'm not a big fan of "aftermarket" alarms, as the factory wire harness would need to be tabbed into for the alarm to work. Always causes trouble after a couple of years.

Factory alarms are much better I think, as it is already wired in and less prone to problems.

Do you guys agree with this reasoning?

I got an after-market alarm/remote start for my Saturn (worked late hours and parked in a remote lot years ago) worked great for life of car - not one problem. Used reputable company that came highly recommended from many friends in the business. I would listen to opinions of people in the Smart Club and on these forums and you will be fine. You are right however that the glass will be broken sometimes and something grabbed alarm or not. Thank goodness she wasn't irreparably harmed!!
