I don't remember the exact wording they used when asking if I still wanted the smart, but it seemed reasonable at the time.

In the follow-up email they offered several dealer-installed options ... at obscene prices. No thanks.

Today my DDE stopped moving. Maybe Polly escaped from customs. Once she gets on a truck it only takes a day's drive to arrive in San Jose.

Yesterday Marta, my 1985 Mercedes, wouldn't start. Engine cranks but doesn't start. This is the car I normally drive (40 miles each way) to work. I'll be commuting in Polly when she arrives. I haven't decided how much I'm willing to pay to fix Marta. This would become an extra car that doesn't get used much. If it was running I figure I could sell it for $1,000 but it seems worth more than that to me. I paid $40,000 for this car in 1985. It has 160,000 miles and is in very good condition. This weekend I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong. If I can't, I'll take it to Smythe European. I've had the same service advisor since Marta was new and he'll do the best he can to keep repair cost under control.

I got a call from Smart San Jose yesterday that my smart had arrived. We went in today and bought it. Yeah! Earlier I bought a set of Don's lug nut covers (in red). They look great.

...BTW..did you tell Martha that you were getting Polly?...if you did, there's the problem....just put them in the garage together for a little while and let them talk it out....
