My smartie a hit at the auto show!

My wife and I attended the 26th Classic Auto Show and Cruise-in this weekend in Dublin, Ohio....an annual event honoring the late Len Immke (and popular Buick dealer) and benefiting the Arthritis Foundation of central Ohio. The show is well organized and a great time and has kept us coming back for years (we've attended 4 times in the last 6 years). In the past, we've entered the PT and/or the MINI, but since we hadn't had the smart out of town on a trip yet, it was his turn.

Boy, talk about being popular...seemed like there was always a crowd around, and the questions were endless! (wish I had some pre-printed spec sheets with me!)

We placed the smart in the "Foreign - all years" class, which was sort of a left over class for all the foreign cars not in one of the other dozen or so specific foreign car classes (ie, British, Jags, Porsches, etc). Interestingly, at first glance the smart red was not too far off in hue compared to some of the older reds, as seen in the neighboring Citroen....

and the eventual class "Best is Show" winner Vespa 400

and, oh

....did I mention that my smart took home an "Award of Excellence" trophy?!

Very cool! Big weekend in Columbus for car shows; the Good Guys show, this one and the "mini show" at Easton on Saturday. We'll have to do better scheduling next year. Congrats on the award!

Thanks....I like the Vespa's battery "oven" that slides out of the front grill!

oh, THAT'S what that is!?!?! i thought it was just a 'luggage' compartment! ha ha

Smartcard, Really nice post 'N pix.

So cool that our Smart cars are still catching the eyes of "car guys" wherever they go. And like Jeepster. I really love that Vespa.

Interesting on Reds. I have always wondered why they brought out that shade of red instead of a brighter one. Now I see, it's a Euro thing.

I got a wild idea. For next years show in Dublin, why not plan it to coincide with the show.. and have a actual Smart display in the car show.. and call that a meet and greet.. a Smart car show WITHIN a car show?

What do you think about that idea?

There's a few of us that got together at a few local shows over the last few months. Always a blast. In October we have a HUGE show that I have a good bit of pull with and is one of the nicer shows in North Florida/South Alabama - if enough Smarts show up, they'll add a Smart Class.

I've been turning down the trophies at the last few shows I've gone to where they placed me in a class with older cars. I'm a firm hater of new cars with old cars in the same class. Last thing I need is another trophy around the house anyway though the last show everyone went home with something.

SmartCard - wasn't it funny how the old classic cars that have blood, sweat, & tears of the owner in it get passed over to see a brand new car that can be purchased right now? It's cool having the shiny new penny.
