my smarts first fender bender *sigh*

Fortunately it was pretty minor and both my mom and myself are safe and feeling well. I was sitting at a stop light and the driver behind me wasn't paying attention. No biggie, just more of a pain in the ass!

What i found interesting is that prior to this accident i was rearended in my giant minivan in a very similar fashion (about the same speeds, i was stopped, got tapped from behind), and i honestly didn't feel any difference in the smart car as i would in a 'normal' car or my van. for example, i've had people ask and assume that anything minor would just have my car bounce 100 ft or something rediculous, but my little one stood her ground!

i didn't feel any less safe being rearended in this car, as opposed to my minivan, and if anything, i felt more secure in the smart car when it comes to after effects like whip lash than in my minivan (which is older, and likely has less updated safety standards anyways). My mom was also in the car with me and suffers from cronich back pain from a previous car accident, and has had no complaints about whip lash or her back aching :-)

I bet ya a free coffee at Starbucks the person behind you was busy yakking on the cel phone. Whatever caused the person to knock ya from behind it is god to hear that your pure did not bounce like a ping pong ball or get really totaled in the whole deal. Best part is you and your mother were unharmed in the thing. I too have been hit from behind more than once and it too amde me wonder how well Mr. Blue would take such a nasty hit. I hope you are not going to pay too much for it.

Glad you are OK. What is it in Fairfax that drivers are so distracted? Just today I was coming from Fairfax Circle toward Old Town and a Suburban literally started to move right into my lane. I hit the brakes and avoided an accident by a few centimeters. Clueless driver.

It was actually in Manassas, and fortunately i'm not going to have to pay a dime for the damage because i filed a claim with the other drivers insurance and they were found at fault (she didn't want me to go through insurance, uhhh, yeah no thanks i'll stick with filing a claim!). i'm not terribly excited that if parts need to get shipped that it will take a while to deliver with the holidays but oh well, it happens.

Remember to bring it to an AUTHORIZED smart center?

Howdy Lisa

Glad to hear you are OK.
Sorry to hear about your pure getting "tagged"

Remember to bring it in to an AUTHORIZED smart center (Tyson's is closest to you) for estimate and repairs? If you take it to another repair shop, they might not be up to speed on what to look for?

Just my 2 cents?

I agree completely with getting it repaired at a Smart authorized center. I had to have a right rear panel replaced. State Farm gave me greif, but in the end agree to let the Smart center do the repairs. They originally wanted me to have it repaired at the local body shop who agreed that they had never worked on a Smart but were "willing to give it a try".
