My surfboard fits!

I know most of you aren't on the coast and probably don't surf ... but after a stop-by at my local dealer (Smart Center San Diego) I was pretty excited to see that my 6' 6" surfboard fits inside the car. Interestingly enough, the seats do not recline (very much) ... the passenger seat does fold flat and by putting the board in from the hatch it rests on the dashboard but fits inside. That should give everyone else an idea of what can fit inside. So long as it's less than 6 1/2 feet long it should fit inside ... rigor-bodies may be an exception though ....;)

Ah shucks, after I stopped competing, I graduated to a 7'2" makes it easier to out paddle the grommits. I do need to find a way to fit it, cause this is going to be my fix to finding a beach parking spot.

The thought of fitting my surfboard in my smart makes me miss So Cal all over again! (Recently moved to Portland from the SFV about 7 months ago)

I understand there may be a regular rack system available in the UK ... I haven't looked into it yet but I was planning on designing a rack for the car. I just need to get mine so I can start fab'ing it. Soon .... vewy swooon ....
I've got a 7-10 that I use on weekends to fend off the hoards (when it isn't good out that is) so a rack is going to be necessary for me. PM me with your contact info if you're interested in what I come up with.

Cynce ... I believe we chatted a little before when you were down here for training ... didn't know you surfed! I'm thinking you're going to need some additional training ... (excuse to come to SD!) ... Next time you come down, get a hold of me - I've got extra boards.

Check the parts catalog. You buy the basic rack (bar at the bottom) and add the top piece you want.

That's kinda the plan ... but not that god-awful rectangular bumper-looking thing!

I'll post pics once I get the prototype done.
