I did a Configurator on www.smart.com to see what a red/black/red interior would look like and it looks like it'd be nice but the cloth seats look a bit "noisy".

its fine to ask around, look at all the photos, etc.
but, there comes a time, when you have to find, what in your soul, to you, and you 'only', looks the best.
stay as far away from anyone who gives a confident opinion of such and such.
you will use it each day.
you will see it each day.
you have to conclude, what to you 'only', regardless of what anyone says, is the most appealing to 'you'.
that is, if the item is going to be yours only.
if you have a wife, or kids, then you have to decide, if its yours, or theirs, or something you will share.
if sharing, only the person sharing it with, should be consulted.
if its 'yours', even if your married, don't listen to anyone, but inside yourself.
and maybe the same with your wifes car. if its hers, get her not to lean on you, but to make that decision, which is deep from her soul (not yours), something that she will admire forever, as long as its with her.
everyone can do this. for some, it may be hard at first. but, they have to try. its within them to do it. to find that perfect one, of all the choices, that is uniquely best for them.
one way i did this with smart, not being able to see in on dealer lots, is to go to the smart event, do the drive twice, read and view all the posters, talk to other men and women at the event for general opinions, but then, it was commando solo.
for the next three hours or so, i sat on the grass, and whatched the five test drive smarts coming and going, and unloading, and loading.
viewed them sitting down, standing up, walking around behind them, walking front of them.
until one, emerged, as the winner. my pick of the show. and then, hanging around another hour, to make sure the pick was right.
photos don't cut it. its ok to preview with phtos, but not to make the final conclusion. you have to see it in person, for a good while.
yes, four or five hours to just sit around looking something over, may seem like a lot. spending $30,000 pretax earning on a vehicle , is also a lot fo money.
so, to find the perfect one, its worth the four or more hours of in person, viewing, sitting in, etc.
especially, when you cant see any on the road, to discover which looks best on the road, moving, in person, since the smart is all new, and not on the road.
and, you might keep in mind, finding your first favorite, then your second, since panels can be switched, if two colors stir your soul, for around $1000 you can have both.
also keep in mind, while all new panel colors are not likely for at least 6 to 9 months, september of each year, is when the new models will come out for most manufacturers.
i dont know, but, i think its unlikely, that if one takes delivery of a smart next october, i would think, or hope, or presume is will not be a 2008, but a 2009.
if its 2009 sold next september, new model year can have new colors. dont know aobut the smart, but it may be too early, for new colors next september of 2008. we will see.
even if so, you need to determine a first choice color, to start with, and have fun with for about a year. and then consider a new color, when possibly new se colors may be offered, or just additional colors to the line, like a gun metal medium silver.
therefore, you are back to picking out your favorite color. and you unlikely will be able to do it, without spending time in person, with as many as you can, to determine your pick of the show.
you have it within you to do so. if its your car only, push away anyone who trys to put their opinion into your thinking. take no ones advice.
go to the source, in person, take your time, stay alone (no salespeople, no other customers near, no relatives), and find the one that stirs the passion of your soul.
you can do it. its within you. let it emerge.
the result, is you will have a special appreciation for it later, ... day to day, month to month, year to year.
(of course, don't be a fool. ... if you can get it for 70% off msrp, even if only in primary pink with green poka-dots, ... take it.)
