I'm picking up my Cabrio orphan this Friday!!! They offered me a warranty on it... saying it would be $1348 for 5 years and 60,000 miles and covers "just about everything" - and has a $100 deductible for each visit... does this sound like the Smart factory warranty? I thought that was $395 per year, or something like that... I NEED HELP! They gave me a sheet with everything that is covered and its basically the whole page...

We got a 5 year 60,000 extended warranty... but we paid less than $1000 for it.
If my memory is correct, this extended warranty does not cover batteries or tires. They did offer us a separate tire warranty.
We bought the 100K warranty for $1995 if my failing memory is correct. Also bought the extended tire warranty. Was told that there is only 1 tire manufacturer for now and that the tires are expensive. Was also told that since my dealer is a Benz dealer, that labor charges are the same for the Smart as the Benz.
I didn't buy any extended warranties. Only way I'll know if I made the right decision for me is if after a few years how the car is doing. Who knows. I don't like the factory warranty coverage... But I used to work in the car biz and it was always a victory for the dealership if they could convince the buyer to get the extended warranty. I love my dealership, but I'm not wealthy enough to hand over money for intangibles. Just my thoughts. If I had more disposable income, I might have gone ahead and gotten something just for that piece of mind...
I believe the prices are as follows (includes the first 24/24,000):
3 year/36,000 miles - $395
4 year/48,000 miles - $695
5 year/60,000 miles - $995
5 year/75,000 miles - $1195
5 year/100,000 miles - $1595
so the $1348 quoted doesn't quite match
But unless your looking to roll the warranty into your financing, you have up to a year to decide!

Yeah, well, that's a sales tool. It's nice and has lots and lots of words on it which are meant to overwhelm you.
My advice to you is to be more Meatlike and look at things as I do: askew. Thank them for the paper, and ask to see the paper that has everything listed on it that's not covered by the warranty. Sometimes that list is even longer!
man... I totally don't know what to do... I was the one that brought up the warranty... I truly wanted to get one... I told them I thought it was like $395 a year and I was interested in the 4 year plan... they came back and said for $1348 I can have the 5 yr, 60,000 plan and it covers just about everything... I feel like I should just not get it now...
I didn't get any of the extended warranties. You have a year to decide if you want them, and I wasn't going to roll them into the cost of the loan anyway. So don't fret too much if you're about to get your car...you can hold off on deciding.
Does anybody know exactlyy what is covered when you buy the SMART extended warranty? ** The dealer gave me the list of covered items on THEIR warranty, I'm wondering what is covered for the:
3 year/36,000 miles - $395
4 year/48,000 miles - $695
5 year/60,000 miles - $995
5 year/75,000 miles - $1195
5 year/100,000 miles - $1595
I plan on buying my smart, and depending on how it acts in the first year, then deciding on the warranty.
I don't think going to be going for the tire/wheel plan... I haven't decided on that yet. I'm still thinking about getting a set of 6 spoke Pulse wheels/wider tires, so I don't think that would be covered. That may be my deciding factor.
