Need help figuring out what this car is worth??

Hello there,

My friend wants me to help sell his Smart Car.I no nothing about them really and definately don't know what it's worth so please bare with me.It's a 2008 Passion model,black,40k miles,PS,PB,PW,AC,CD player, heated seats, and moon roof I guess you could call it.Not sure if this is what you would call loaded or not.Just had a full service done at the Mercedes dealership and new tires installed.Anybody have any suggestions on what to start out at?? I looked on KBB and NADA but wanted to get a personal opinion.I know something is worth only what someone is willing to pay but I just wanted to try and help my friend out.The car is located in Indpls.Indiana.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If this is posted in the wrong forum please move to correct one.

Old ones are worth less than new ones. You forgot to give us the year. A2Jack.

Garage
If its a 08 or 09 Anywhere between 7,000 and 9,500. A '10 and newer: $8,000 to $10,000

I would suggest getting an appraisal at your local Carmax AND local smart center.
The two numbers should only be (at most) $1500 - $2000 apart.

That gives you a good ballpark for what it's worth?

~First take it to a bottom feeder to get a price basis in your area~

For a quick sale, take it to CarMAX, and get auction wholesale price... If time to make a sale is not an issue, go fishing by putting a add in Craigs List, and get $1500.00 more than selling it to CarMAX...

Thanks to all that have replied.I see people talking about the 2008 models having problems. Can anybody tell me what kind of problems they have??

This a one owner older gentlemens car that supposedly has given him no problems.Him and his friend just started a new HVAC company and he is selling it to buy a new work van for the company.I was kind of thinking about buying it for my wife but can't get used to the way the car shifts.I am sure I would in time.

Thanks again for the replies.

Ask if the 2.03 transmission software update has been done. It will shift better once that is done.
