Need To Know... Cabrio Owners Please...

Need To Know... Cabrio Owners Please...

How is the wind noise with the top up and down?

The roof rails, do they leak around the seals?

Can I take it through a car wash?

Is it Breezy inside with the top up?

Does the car shimmy over bumps and rough surfaces like other convertibles

Yes there other threads with some posts about the cabrio but I want to hear from owners and people who have taken extended test drives with these thoughts in mind.

I've had my cab over a week and 600 miles so :

Wind noise with the top up is lower than other fabric topped convertibles I've owned and totally acceptable. Top down ??? The top has only been down briefly as I'm in Michigan and the temp has not been above 25 since I got it.

Roof rails and top seem very well sealed. After talking with the smart center service manager, I took it through a car wash yesterday. Even though the owners manual says that window seals may leak - I got no water inside.

The ride is rather harsh over bumps, but I've experienced no cowl shake.

I do not regret for a moment buying the cab instead of the coupe.

Hope this helps

I bought the windshield (64,00 euros) for when the top is down. I'll be getting it in a week.

Windshield

That does not come as standard equipment? The one I drove at the Frankfurt International Auto Show had one and the person that went with me from Smart indicated that they were standard in Europe.

Olga, how did the interior feel with the windshield in place? I'm curious to know your impressions. Did you take it out and see if there was a difference?

Thanks, Regina

Windscreen

Yes it is a windscreen. It was cold, wet, and rainy the day I went to FIAS so I didn't get a chance to drive with the top down. With the top up I didn't notice any excess noise - I think it's a multi-layer top like in my Mustang. The Germans are very big on windscreens as they don't like the ventilation that Americans see as part of the top down experience. They put the top down, put up their windscreens and roll up all their windows hoping not to get air movement through the passenger compartment. We want the wind in our hair experience only a Cabrio can provide. To them it's a Wellness issue, believe me we don't understand it.
