I put my order, and cash, down on my car June 15 2007. But as my DDE moved from April to May to June I put myself on the orphan list at Rahal Smart in Pittsburgh at the end of March. On April 21 I picked up a orphan almost like my Pure I ordered other than color, black rather than yellow. I never canceled my 'bee' as I thought I may sell it when it came or sell my black Pure and keep my bee. As we have driven the orphan my wife and I both found that we'd really like two Smart cars in the family as we both travel alone most the time and the kids are all moved out and on.
My last check of the DDE had June 25 2008 so I was getting ready for car number two. But as that date came and went I thought I'd better call as my dealer is 4.5 hour drive and I make it a 2 day trip. Rahal now tells me the car is not even built yet! Now I know there are not a lot of folks that will feel sorry for me....and that's not why I am posting. It's more how I almost
PASSED on the orphan as my car was due in 60 days. WOW....am I glad that I went ahead and got that orphan as now Smart says my car may not be due until October!
16 month wait if I had not bought that orphan....how many manufactures would like to have a back log like that!
