New car fun! (Setting off the alarm)

So, when we picked up the little guy this morning, I asked the saleswoman, "By the way, I forgot to ask what the alarm sounds like. Is it the same as the 'Panic' alarm?" Obviously misinterpreting me, she said, "Go ahead, try it." So I hit the 'Panic' button, heard the horn beeping, and thought, "Okay, that must be what it does when the alarm is set off, too."

I come home tonight, and as I pass him in the darkness I (of course) have to go say hello. I notice two blinking lights on the dash: one under the "towhook/motion-sensor" button, and another under the "lock" button on the left. I thought, "Hmm, I didn't think it was supposed to be two blinking lights. Maybe I should check the manual." (Which is in the back of the car.)

So, not really having read the manual thoroughly (especially the part that says, "Hit the unlock button before doing anything else") I use the trunk-pop button to open the glass. I open it, reach in, grab the manual, take it out, and close the glass. As I bring the glass down... the little guy begins screaming at me!! Scared out of my wits, I start pressing buttons on the fob and, of course, I hit the 'Panic' button, so now he's screaming AND beeping at me, LOL.

Hot tip: do not pop the back glass BEFORE using the unlock key!!

Our dog usually goes with us when we leave the car. If I know she's staying inside, I usually remember to turn off the motion detector. More than once I've forgotten (or not known my wife was leaving her in the car.) I'm inside when I hear a car alarm going off and have the usual reaction of what a**hole set off his alarm this time about two nanoseconds before I realize that I'm that a**hole!

Yeah, and don't try and jack it up with the alarm on either.

Thanks for the hoot! I wondered about the alarm but haven't triggered it yet.

Now, off to find some paper towels to clean up all this spewed coffee...
