Wow 10 orphans in your area. Here in Houston there are NONE and there was a list about 160 people deep when I was looking. I used Ebay to find the exact smart I wanted, just like ordering one from the dealer, I looked for the exact color, features etc. I shopped on Ebay till I found it. It was in Boston. Bought it off Ebay they had several transport companies listed and I was driving my Smart in about 10 days. Some one from another state who is looking for your exact car is out there. Don't just be concerned with just your AREA. Someone is wanting your exact car and Ebay has the most lookers out there. Good Luck
Suze,
I've STILL got my Sentra for sale. Had it on Craig's List for the 45 day run. I'm thinking about re-listing it and lowering my asking price, maybe that will help.
It's a rough time to try to sell any car (or house). But, there's a world of difference in demand between a Sentra and a Fortwo!
Well, that is scary!!! I didn't know there were neocons on there!

Craigslist seems to be a hotbed of cheaters, liars, lib-tards, neo-cons and creepy, sordid sex . I'm not sure I can expose my naive little smartie to all that!
Ebay has a deal where it will only cost you about $100 if your car sells to sell it on ebay. They dont charge you anything if it dosnt. I sold my bike that way (well, I listed it, wasnt selling, guy made me an offer, took it off line, no fees)
in a perfect world, accepting an orphan would be contingent upon canceling a reservation.
When I picked up my orphan the dealer told me that they wanted me to keep my reservation and go ahead and configure when the time came even if I didn't want the smart so they would have some orphans to sell. And as that is the way I got my car...I have to agree and support them in this.
Of course if you look on the map of dealers you can see that the SLC Smartcenter does cover a lot of territory.
I really do wish you luck. I've got a similar situation. Love my orphan but my cabrio is on the way according to the DDE. Not sure how to deal with the bad economy. Something does seem off. Maybe after Tuesday everybody will start buying again...no matter who wins. Keep us posted on what happens!
I think you explained why there are so many orphans. You got one orphan already. Have 2 on reserved. Now 1 of reserved one come in and you need to sell the orphan to buy the reserved one. Unless you keep both, you are increasing the supply of smart in your area.

I wouldn't mind keeping my orphan. It's a great car even tho it's not a convertible. And I have another reservation for a cabrio that should come in about a year. (#1757). I figure by next fall, my 2008 will have about 24K miles, still be in great shape, still have all the options and it' resale value won't be such an unknown.
How come KBB.com doesn't have smart on it's used car list?

I've thought that Daimler should continue their refundable $99.00reservation program--but require a $500.00 non-refundable cash deposit at configuration.
