Nightline $10 Gas Inspires Brits to be Creative

Anyone catch Nightline last night? It stared the one and only Smart! A white and silver 451. The opening line?

Drive a ridiculously small car. While Americans were joy riding in muscle cars, Europeans crammed themselves into minis.
Americans love their sport utility vehicles, but the Smart car gets close to 50 miles to the gallon. Just forget about having more than one passenger.

I can't find the video yet but it was a great one! Though they also talked about their diesel love.. oh how I wish!

Those are Imperial gallons so the mpg numbers always look better.

Roundabouts

I favor the notions of reducing speed bumps, and increasing roundabouts, where possible (saves fuel)
There should be a moratorium on building speed bumps!

We have a few roundabouts in Pasadena, but they all have stop signs as well, so it defeats the purpose of saving gas if you have stop and start anyway rather than just yield.

In my country of birth, they replace more and more stop intersections with yield roundabouts. It works fine, reduces the commuting time but seems to be a challenge for pedestrians.

I'm with you on the round abouts, but not the speed bumps. If people drove smart everywhere, I'd say fine. But we have people going 70 down city streets because they don't have speed bumps. Sadly, it takes a kid getting hit and/or killed before they put them in most times.

In New Jersey we have or had circles. We Americans apparently don't drive as safely as those over seas since the circles here are or could be dangerous. There were alot of circles removed because of that reason.
