No Flat Tires? / Why The Double Tire Sizes?

Has anyone figured out a solution to the tire problems on the smart? Why couldn't they figure out how to keep the tires the same size by modifying the design of the car? Also Has anyone found a real self sealing tire to avoid the green gunk / 12 volt compressor routine? Everyone would love the fix if there is one!

I have decided to carry a spare sized to the front 155/60 15 on a Rial Le Mans 15X5 wheel running a Continental ContiProContact 155/60 R15 tire without TPMS i've ordered from Tire Rack. I'll keep the spare in a zippered tire bag I've ordered from The Bag Lady and buy a 15mm 6 point socket, breaker bar and scissor jack locally.

Even a punctured run-flat has limited mileage and speed until repaired or (often) replaced.

A plugging kit is as effective or more-so than a "goo-kit." And the tire is a lot easier to permanently repair than a goo'd one.

You only need one front wheel and tire. Front fits both front and rear.

Pix is the spare from "Tire Rack". Bag from "The Bag Lady.

My Smart dealer ,Smart Bloomfield MI, sells the steel wheel for $80, The tire 155 160 R15 for $90. See the Tire and wheel forum for more details. A2Jack

Like I said in the previous post. I choose not to get flats anymore. I find them to be a big inconvenience. So nothing else to do but not get them anymore. Flat free and proud for over 1 year now!

BINGO!!!! I called Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and talked to Sonny at ext 698. He gave me the best answer! If you purchase a set of five 15X5 wheels for the car including a spare wheel and note that if the car is new, 3 additional 175/55/R15 tires, he told me that everything will fit and not mess with the car. I have seen a picture of a spare mounted on the back of a smart car. If that can indeed be done, the problem is solved! Now I need to decide which bank to rob for the money! Oh crap my Smartie won't make a very good getaway car! LOL!!!
