Now the REAR latch won't shut!

Some of you will recall that I've had latch problems before. Last year, it was the driver's side door latch. It seemed to be affected by hot weather, and the problem took care of itself during the cold months, resurfacing again only recently, when I finally had the latch replaced -- partly at my expense

A few weeks ago I bought the latch attachment that makes it a lot easier to lift the tailgate; I think it's called a tailgate handle. It goes on with a super-strong adhesive, but as soon as I'd put it into place, I noticed I had trouble shutting the tailgate. Perhaps the bit of metal (from the handle) that went under the glass was getting in the way of the window shutting completely. I learned quickly to hold the 'handle' a certain way while closing the tailgate (lifting the handle up a bit as I shut the tailgate -- not an easy task). Then today, nothing worked. I figured it might be the heat, so I drove with the tailgate open, but that didn't cool things down, and I had to leave Cheewawa parked in Manhattan with everything unlocked. At least she was in a good nabe, with my doormen keeping the occasional eye on her.

So back I go to the dealership tomorrow (I was just there last week for the 40K tuneup). This is getting a bit annoying.

Mine acted up and it ended up needing the cable inside lubricated. Has been working ever since.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried some oil, but lt didn't work. I'll mention the cable idea to the mechanic.

Success. I picked the car up, and the latch works. It was indeed the cable. The mechanic had to open the entire rear panel. Huzzah. The thing closes now better than it ever did.

- thanks for the update! I have all my panels off of my car right now and am thinking of lubing all the handles and cables while they are off. You just tipped my decision enough that I will do it.

Hey, B. Are you planning to install sound proofing, or better speakers? Or both? That's on my list of things to pay someone to do for me.

Uni - I wish I had time to do some insulation for it but I need to have it back and assembled ready to go for our meet on Saturday and I'm running behind because the parts I ordered are running late - just checked FEDEX and as of 0900CST it said it is on the truck 15 miles away from the house. Once it get in then I have to take everything down to the shop as the garage isn't a good environment for what I'm doing. As far as what I'm up to - I'm not saying until I am done but think.....WHALE TAIL! Not!! In the end, it will have a theme..

Jet - come on now, you should know me better than that now. I pull it apart BLINDFOLDED!!!!!
