Nurse Performs Parking lot Surgery.

Emergency surgery was again required on our new Smart car's shifter. This is second time in less than a month it locked in park.

Via phone link to Smart Bloomfield, nurse was able to pull up one end of the console, trip a release and drive home.

A crowd had, meanwhile, gathered around the car while Nurse/Wife did her work. She fielded questions about how much did she like her Smart Car. Parking lot was 120 miles from dealer so field fix was a must.

Cars goes to shop today for replacement of shifter. More details later.

A2jack.

Thanks....That "proceedure" might come in handy for others. How did you tip up the console? Did you have to unscrew anything or can you just pry it up with your hands? Any chance for a picture?

I will post the whole procedure with pix after the car returns from the shop today.

I agree it is important that we have this "field fix" procedure stored in the back of our heads, as I see this as an ongoing problem.

For now have a look up on CsC, as I posted this and another shifter fix, up there last week.http://clubsmartcar.com/index.php?showforum=80

Has any one had their gear shifter replaced and still had problems after putting on some more miles? Mine is in the shop today for this problem.
