NYC drivers (parking garage question)

I just got the email today and have chosen my options and submitted my order (black/red passion). So, to pass the time I have begun to look into the parking situation. I was wondering if anyone has gotten a parking spot in manhattan for their smart and if so (if you don't mind me asking) what they are paying. I'm wondering if I can get a cheaper monthly spot in the smart, I mean they charge larger cars extra, so shouldn't we get a break? Also, there are many little nooks in the garages that only a smart can fit into. My logic is, wouldn't they rather give me that nook for half price that not make any money on it at all? If I could find a garage that lets you actually rent your own space, I wonder if they would let two smarts split one space? I appreciate any help or advice you guys can offer. As small as the smart is, street parking in Manhattan every day is not going to work out for me, so I'm going to need a space. Thanks again

Jason.

Two cars will fit in one spot unless you own the spot don't expect a discount.

Hey Jason,
I have parked in a parking garage on 55th between 2nd & 3rd Aves which is where our law firm has a contract. They guys were really sweet and curious about the smart.

Anyway, if I were you, I would contact all your local garages in a 2 mile radius to see if anyone is willing to work with you. Two summers ago, I was in between places in Jersey so I had to stay in Brooklyn at my daughter's home. I decided to store my Acura TL in the city to avoid damage/vandals. I called hundreds of garages in midtown and ultimately found a garage that gave me a huge discount for only $200 month when everyone else was charging nearly $400. It just takes some time and research but start now.

But might want to also consider parking on the west side (west of 9th Ave) where there are many free spots that will only fit a smart.

Lastly, you may be able to share a spot with a motorcycle. I think the possibilities are endless and definitely not hopeless.

By the way, where do you live?

Thanks, Regina

In a few months I'll be living on west 4th between 6th ave and McDougal (in Manhattan). There is plenty of alternate side parking in that area, but I don't want to have to deal with moving the car all the time. Plus, as small as the smart is the streets with free parking in manhattan are often so packed with cars that even the smart would be hard pressed to find a spot. I have spent too many nights driving around 9th-11th ave looking for spots for 2 hours to ever want to worry about it. Thanks for the help
