NYC: First Anniversary rally 5/3/09, 10am

I received this note from smartusa:

"Please join us for our 1st Anniversary smart rally event and celebration on May 3rd at smart center Manhattan.

"To celebrate one year of smart in the United States we would like to invite you to join us for some fun contests in which we will be voting for the best vanity plate, the best accessorized and the best wrapped smart. You will be able to take advantage of discounted accessories and apparel and free car washes. We will finish up the event with a rally drive around Manhattan showing everyone just how smart we are!

"The event will commence at 10 A.M. in the dealership parking lot at the corner of 41st and 11th Avenue. Extended warranty sign up will be available. Exhibitors and sponsors are welcome."

I'll be there, most likely with my son and a few unicycles. See you there!

I spoke with Elaine, the awesome smart saleswoman (who happens to be an owner, too!), and she said that a good # of people were planning to attend and that there will be a parade of smarts driving around certain spots in Manhattan. The parade is slated for about 2pm.

Be sure to take lots of photos and videos. It would be neat to see that.

I'll be there. But it should be noted that this is the same date as the Five Borough Bike Tour, a guaranteed traffic nightmare.

I'm also hoping the Jersey and Long Island people show up. The smartcenter is easily accessed with the Queens Midtown Tunnel if you're arriving from the East and the Lincoln Tunnel if you're traveling from New Jersey.

Darn -- that traffic could be terrible, depending on where and when we plan to drive. Let's make sure we ask if they're aware of that ride.

I've unicycled the route twice. It's a fun ride, but not a fun day to be driving in NYC.

This is the bike tour route. If you are traveling through Brooklyn, using the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel will avoid the tour. The tour runs north on 6th Avenue, so there will be delays if your route coincides.
