Oh!! THE BUGS!! (Re: bug cleaning)

WOW This Car is a Bug Magnet.

All through the non snow Winter I had to put all my cleaning efforts to the back of the car.

Now that spring is here all my attention is now directed to the front and trying to keep the bug guts scraped off the little guy. And we havent even got to the season whre they get baked on.

OK, What are the recomendations to help get the bugs off and how do we Make our future self lifes easier with products that make clean up simpler?

Any car wax should help. I heard Rejex is great stuff, a fellow Minnesmarta Member used it and he said a garden hose had enough force to wipe of the bugs if rejex was applied before.

Wash the big juicy bugs off fast. They will eat the clear coat, just like bird poop.

For me, a spray-and-delay of Simple Green, then a wipe with a Simple Greened paper towel takes off all but the most tenacious of specks, even on the textured black bits. Those that remain are easily fingernailed off with no aggressive or abrasive scrubbing. That said, I am blessed with white MIC panels; might not work so well on black or one of the dark metallics.

The Simple green method works fine on my Silver metallic. I use a water hose with an injector of the simple green concentrate. Hose it down, let it sit a few, rub with light sponge or wash mitt, and then rince. I use rain-X on the windshield and the green rain-x summer wiper formula and windshield keep the bug splats on the windshield to a minimum.

Prior anticipation, rather than after-splat cleaning, would be preferred. A really good quality wax job; Rejex, Ice, Zaino, Ultimate, etc., well in advance of bug season, really makes removing the little splattered buggers easier. Same with Rain-X on the windshields. After these applications a good hosing off will remove most bug parts.
Here we're plagued several times a year with "love bugs" - and they'll eat right thru the clearcoat in a day if left on the finish. Sometimes they're so bad that a short high-speed drive will coat the front of your car~! Euuuuw!

Sorry for the previous comedy break. I've been using Mother's Glass cleaner. Cleans messes like bird crap and seems to leave a slicker smoother glass surface. Makes cleaning later messes easier and the slicker windshield could possibly give better highway MPGs.

my yellow smart seems to attract living insects like bees and gnats and mayflies: they seem to dig the color.
