An easy way to get the bugs off, just water and fabric softener sheets. Wet the sheets a litte and rub the areas where the bugs are. They come off very easy and after using this method for several years on my motorhome there is no damage at all, just clean front end. The softener sheets when wet make a white foamy type of soap that cleans without damage. Hope this helps, it sure makes getting even the dried ones off easy.

I recommend 1Z Einszett Anti-Insekt Pre-Cleaner, in combination with some Zaino Z-7 Show Car Wash. The bugs were quickly removed without any harsh rubbing or scratching.

I hav e found Rejex is excellent, but make sure that there is NO wax on the car when it is applied as it degrades the curing of the Rejex, shortening it's life

Ok, Now that summer is over (but still not bug season) here is what I have learned about the bugs.

Just before the Midwest Rally in June I purchased a bottle of Turtle wax Ice Spray detailer Turtle Wax - ICE Spray Detailer

Not only was it the first detailer that worked to make the roof spotless and give me that deep shine, but it seems to work wonders getting the surface nice and slickery to keep the bugs from sticking.

Before the rally I gave the entire car a fresh McGuire's wax, and followed up with the detailer. I has tried two other detailers that didn't work as good, were more picky about application, and didn't seem to last as long.

So all summer I have been washing with a two bucket system. 1 Rinse bucket filled with water from my dehumidifier because its the only water around here that won't leave wicked water spots and deposits. The second bucket has a basic car wash with wax.

First I use the soapy water and give a quick swish over the front to get the bugs a little time to loosen. I then wash the roof working my way down the windshield (also covered in bugs) and then do the front. As I go I follow up each section with a microfiber towel from the clean dehumidifier bucket. After I rinse it I then wring out the towel and use it as a shammy to dry the car before the sun has its way with it.

When I get to the front the bugs eisly wash off.
When Im done washing and drying the car as I go, I then go back over the car with the Ice detailer. Next time I wash the car, the bugs come off easy.

The Ice also does a good job of making the front wheels easy to clean.

Oh and if anyones counting, I use two - three gallons of tap water to clean both my smart and Versa.

Pro Honda spray cleaner & polish

Have used it for years on our other plastic bodied cars; works exactly as advertised and is priced very well. Rumor is Honda has stopped carrying it but I found a site that has it: PRO-HONDA SPRAY CLEANER & POLISH | MotoSport

Also found another site that carries the "non-Honda" version from the original Honda supplier: Spray Cleaner & Polish - Bike Spirits - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories

This stuff really works on removing bugs and leaving a nicely polished surface.

Back in the early 80's when I used to own a SilverWing (when they were GoldWings with 500cc engines, not the current scooter look), the common method of cleaning all that plastic was to wipe the fairing, luggage and trunk down with Pledge. It made the dirt slide right off.

Since our smarts are made of plastic, has anyone tried the Pledge trick ?

It's a spray - just zap the spots where the bugs are stuck on, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off with a soft cloth.
