Oh Crud! (windchield chips)

Discovered not one but FOUR chips in my windshield today! hiding behind the rear view mirror.

One of the chips has actually already created a small crack! Will go tomorrow to get them fixed.

I'm glad I took the time to clean the windshield after the car wash, otherwise these nicks might have gone unnoticed.

Bad luck..

On my way home from the dealer the day I bought my Smart a car tossed up a small rock that put a noticeable chip directly in my line of sight. First and last time I remember seeing a chip 'happening'.

I picked up to chips when some genius used an exit only lane to pass me on the right. They kicked up a rock out of that area you're not supposed to drive in (aka "the gore") and it hit the windshield. I fixed it with the windshield repair kit from the parts store so at least it won't turn into a crack.

Suze, don't fix it yourself. Find a good glass shop, Not Safelite Auto Glass. My son works in the auto glass business and does glass on Lexus, Porshce, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, and anything else. He did not speak well of Safelite.

Thanks, A2 - I have read them before but will do again.

Took little Zippy to a very busy, well established glass shop near all the major car dealers in town and had 3 chips repaired. I have to say, I'm not that happy. I can still clearly see the chips but the tech said that's the way it is. And at least 5 more chips (I know, that's a lot!) did not get repaired because they said they were not needed. (Cosmetic only)

Also, there is one sort of serious looking chip smack dab center of the rain sensor. They didn't want to even try to repair that one.

Well, the good news is that my insurance covers chip repair at 100% and if I need a windshield replacement my deductible is only $100.

State Farm offers an enhanced, No deduct, windshield plan, add on, at very low cost.

Since every car we have ever owned gets a pock or a crack here on the Michigan freeways, we now carry that enhanced glass plan. A2Jack

Same in Denver when I was there. I went through at least one windshield a year. Once I had one put in and about 3 weeks later took a large rock right in the driver's view area. So out it came, too.
My Allstate covered every one of them, no deductible. Well worth the few extra bucks.
