Easier than on my truck. At least the oil filter is not mounted sideways.

10 Min or less

Check out "smart oil change" on You Tube, he walks you thru a complete oil change, looks like a chimp could do it.

A service which is just a bunch of visual inspections that even a "trunk monkey" can do with a banana in one hand.

There seems to be a lot of debate about the 10k oil change. A lot of people seem to think that's ridiculous, but I'm not sure that today's new engines (with their well-designed parts and synthetic oils) have the same issues as older cars. Historically, when you got a new car, you had "break-in oil", and you had to change it to get all those initial tiny bits and pieces out that invariably would shake loose. But if Smart says the car doesn't need an oil change until 10k... shouldn't we assume they know what they're talking about? I mean, THEY built the thing, and they've been building them for a decade now.

I realize that there is a lot of micro-finishing done on engines today, and there are less metal bits floating about, but I still cannot change my ways and will most likely do the first change well below the standard outlinerd by smart. Probably at 3,000 for me. I pick up the car in three weeks now, so I will get some filters at the same time. The oil change is so cheap to do, I consider it cheap insurance on a longer lasting motor.
BMW recommends changes every 15,000 on my 325iT, but I never let it go that long. 7,500 tops, so I anticipate doing it doubly often on the smart too, but I will have to see how the oil stands up first. Most oil synthetic doesn't break down so easily, so it will be a case of what it looks like to me.

Now THAT is an interesting option. Changing the oil isn't in my repertoire--I live in a small apartment, and just don't have access to the tools or spot to do it in--but changing out a filter is certainly easy enough. And if the rationale is that the filter has trapped any nastiness, but the oil itself is fine... I'll have to think about that.

Remember that the warranty is only for 24000 miles or 2 years. Maybe if you change your oil more often it will last longer.

You can't possibly be serious.
