oil change question

I am attempting to do an oil change prior to the factory required mileage. What size socket is required for the oil pan nut? My socket set only goes to 21mm and that is way too small. Thanks, Mark

It's 24mm.

Performing an oil change prior to the manual recommened interval is a highly commemdable thing ,in my opinion.Be forwarned that the first time getting the oil drainage plug CAN be a real effort.Other postings here have given the impression that subsequant efforts go A LOT smoother. No real panic allert or anything like that, though.Being aware of the initial required effort will go a long way in alleviating the issue.Good luck and know that you are doing a very wise and (I feel) "smart" thing.Enjoy your smart.

I recently changed my oil for the first time and I was shocked at how loose my oil drain plug was!

Can someone tell me what weight oil the Passion 2008 uses? If anything, I did learn from my ex to keep the oil changed. I just bought this car a few days ago and it has 6,500 miles on it. I want to take it and make sure to get the oil changed (even though the dealership assured me it has been done), I want to make sure it has synethic blend oil in it. Thanks for y'all's help!

If you don't have an Owners Manual to refer to (look behind the seat if not in the glove box), you might want to get one of those first.

But to answer your question, it depends on who you ask and where you live AND what your personal preference is. I prefer 0w-40 Mobil 1 so that's what I'll be using. I hear that you could also use a 5w-40 as well.

Intervals is another story......good luck with THAT!

The original 08 manual doesn't cover oil weights; I'm assuming the manual provided with the 2.0 upgrade does.

After you've worked your way through this: Why is it needed to change the oil within the 1st 100 miles vs 3K you may be too exhausted to do the oil change.

USCgrad: Most seem to be using Mobil1 synthetic 0-40 or 5-40. I'm with the 0-40 group mostly because that's what's easy to find here in NJ.

Mark, the first time I changed the oil I used a crescent wrench for the drain plug and a channel lock for the filter. No problem (with all 4 wheels on the ground.) Have since gotten the 24 mm socket and the cup wrench for the filter, but you can do it without them.

Scheduled maintenence is 10k oil change or 1 year. Whatever comes first.
