Okay, I give up. What is it ?? (Re: cabrio wind deflector)

On my 2009 cabrio, top center of the windshield frame, there is a little plastic piece, almost like a little windfoil or something.

I searched, I Googled, I did everything but call the dealer or Germany...

What is that little thing for ??

The little plastic piece in the middle of the frame over the windshield helps eliminate "flutter" - the tendency for the partially opened car to resonate like a wind instrument or a bottle. If you stick your hand into the airflow, you'll feel the difference it makes. It's something you feel, not hear.

A friend had a car with a sunroof that made the uncomfortable flutter at a certain speed. Knowing what I told him about the item on the Smart windshield frame, he just rested his hand up there and voila! No more flutter.

Ah.... I thought it was something like that, but it's so tiny.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I was making all sortsa crap up when people I work with asked me....

My best was "It's how the speed is determined. This car is so high tech it takes the road speed from the wind passing over it, then it adjusts the shocks for best stability."

After they say, "WOW !!", I admit I had no idea what it was.

Ahhh, now that is good!

How about a "pressure sensor" - it senses variants and adjusts your suspension and engine to get the best mileage/performance possible. Tell them THAT'S what makes it a SMART car.

John @ Easton said it was a wind deflector so you can open or close the top while driving.
