one small step for smart

The folks at my local automatic car wash went apoplectic when I pulled in the line to get smartie washed.

The owner (who I've known for about 25 years) was very worried that the car was just too small and that she had already turned other smarts away. I explained to her that it weighed the same as the late-1960s VW I'd taken there for almost 40 years, and while "short" it was not that much shorter than a MINI.

She said as long as I was willing to accept all liability she'd let it go through. She had a guy ride along in the car just to make sure everything worked right.

This car wash has a glass walkway where you can watch each part of the process and so I did a walk-through with the owner an she could see there were no problems.

She still insisted that she shut one of the drying fans off at the end "so that the car wouldn't blow over."

LOL.

The funniest part of the process was having a baker's-dozen dryers/finishers at the end of the line working on the details before I was on my way.

FYI the business is the Fairfax Car Wash in Fairfax, VA.

-aw

Before I put the mudflaps on the smartie, I took it to a brushless car wash with a left side track. I was soooo nervous letting them put him on the track so I understand how the car wash owner felt. Funny...my car wash manager helped calm my fears and thankfully all went well as I watched him through the glass window too. Regina

But did you get a discount for having less car to wash?

A carwash in Leesburg charges extra for large vehicles (minivans and up), so a discount for the Smart is only reasonable :-)

Discount... YES !

Our local car wash guy ran our car through personally. He was very excited to have our car go through and loved having it parked outside his establishment while we went for coffee . And Yes, we got a discount.
