Opening rear hatch with car on???

I tried a search on this and looked in the manual, but here's my question. Can the rear hatch glass be opened while the car is running? The key button doesn't work when the car is running. There also isn't a button that I know of inside the car to pop the hatchback. Often when my wife comes out from the store or house, while I'm waiting, I have to turn the car off and then push the key button to get the glass open so she can put stuff in the back. Any suggestions?

Push the "Unlock" Button once to unlock the back door. It can then be opened from the outside.

Does this work even when the engine is running?

Yes, I did it tonight when I had to get some luggage out of the trunk.

My 2007 Passion has a rear hatch release button under the dash, far left corner. Doesn't the 2008 have that?

Nope; another good idea gone missing IMHO but the unlock button works just as well and saved them some pennies.
