Bob, I think it's actually the dealership's car until the prospective owner signs on the dotted line. smart usa orders the car from Hambach and then, once it's arrived in the States, invoices it to the dealer for sale. We'd like to believe it's our car, but I think legally it isn't until we complete the purchase from the dealer. Having said that, you still don't have to pay for the window tint unless you want it. Just my .02.

Wow, kinda pointless to "reserve" a car when the dealer can add on any junk he wants just to hike up the price, eh? Remedy suggestion: once you have your vin# give the dealer a $$$ deposit to secure the car/deal? Waddyathink?

I don't have an answer but your idea is a good one; put some money down with a signed agreement that locks the dealer in. I know once smart usa invoices the car to a smart center it belongs to the center and not even Penske can get it back.
