Orphan List

I just moved up on the orphan list from 144 to 94. How long do you stay on the orphan list and how does it work?

The list varies. You could get your reserved car first in some cases. But orphans are usually quicker if you're not picky on what is on the car. Me, I went on the orphan list about 2 weeks after I reserved back on June 7, 08. Now I'm going to be taking order of an orphan that'll be here in a week or so that is nearly a match to what I ordered.

Every dealership it seems, runs it's Orphan list differently. I'm sure that if you walked into the dealership with cash and they had your car available you could drive it home.

Some will try to match you up with all the things you wanted, or more. Color, interior choice, comfort package, etc. are sometimes taken into consideration before the call to a potential buyer is made.

Make sure your sales person knows what you want and where you are flexible.

We picked up our new Passion last week at the dealership in Albuquerque, NM and they had 2 orphans available to the first 2 people that wanted them. No waiting. Both were Cabriolets, one white/black and one blue/black.

I got on the list in Dallas and there was at least 300 people ahead of me. One month later I walked into the dealership and they had a red one coming in the next wk so I bought it. So you tell me how do they really handle their orphan lists?

Try calling your local Smart Center or visiting them. I purchased my orphan relatively quick. I have been on an orphan list at several Smart Centers but never received a call in the many moons I've been on them. ONe day I just drove out to a Smart Center and they had about 7 available and I drove off with one. They explained to me that its usually better to just go in because alot of their offers to orphan listers usually change their mind and their lists are usually very long to call everyone. Another thing you can do is call your Smart Center and tell them that you have cash in hand and to let you know when they get one with the options you want. I had done that and got a call about a month later, but it was too late for them as I had picked one up about 2 weeks before.
