Ouch My Ears...Another Discovery About the Smart

I keep discovering new things about the Smart here and there...Today I found out that the car has pressure sensitive seats that set off the alarm. It's a cool feature, but almost caused me to have a stroke. LOL I had the windows down and threw my (heavy) purse in drivers side seat only to set off the blaring alarm in my garage that was closed at the time. WOW my ears!!!!!!! I thought the alarm would only go off if the door opened or glass was broken? Does anyone know what else will set it off?

Um, maybe it's time to clean out that purse!! Can't be good for your back or shoulders. If you don't believe me, put the purse on your shoulder and check out your posture in a full-length mirror. My older sister has a permanent "slant" to her posture.

Motion Sensor not pressure?

Howdy all

I had a customer that wondered why her alarm kept going off when she left her dog in the car while shopping?

The answer is simple:
The smart factory alarm system has a MOTION SENSOR in the cabin.
If you have a cabrio and leave the roof down AND activate the alarm, ANY movement inside (throwing in a purse, leaves falling in, or even a strong wind) WILL set off the alarm.

Actually, according to page 78 of the Owner's Manual, that switch turns off both: tow-away and interior motion...

This I knew. But, at that point ... what DOES trip the alarm?

The doors, the hatch, or trying to short the ignition without the fob nearby.
I suppose...

I was with my brother-in-law picking up his smart at devon. The car was in the showroom with the doors closed and the windows down. I reached in the window to get something out of the glovebox. Alarm went off. WOH!

I think the seat sensor does - I reached in to the seat, no alarm, then pushed on the seat: alarm - and the motion sensor works too as I tossed my paper into the footwell. Whee!
