Owning a Smart and Schadenfruede

It's ok if you won't admit it, but every morning when I am making the days lunches for me and the kids the news is on. Without a trick, almost daily, there's a story of yet another high in oil & gas prices....

As I drive to work later in the morning, I can't help but grin, and feel a delicious schadenfruede when I see the moron in traffic next to me, driving the Escalade, alone, on the cell phone.

Kind of a knowing glee about being on the front of the wave. what do you guys think?

I think you like to use big words to confuse me!
Never eaten one of those schadenfruede thingies, but if you say they are delicious, I guess I will have to try one....

It's a great feeling, for sure... but I'd say we're mid-wave now!

In 2000 (almost nine years ago, gulp!), Honda introduced the Insight that reliably returned 60+ MPG... I would regularly get 75-90 MPG on the freeway in mine, twice what I now get in my smart.

I get more Smiles Per Gallon (SPG) in the smart, however.

gas prices were child's play back then. now they are not. hence, front of the wave.

Schadenfreude - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Schadenfreude (IPA: [ˈʃaːdənˌfʁɔʏ̯də] is enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else. The word has been borrowed from German by the English language and is sometimes also used as a loanword by other languages. German philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined it as "the largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate".

I am going to commit that word to memory! I LOVE it! Shadenfreude! Shadenfreude! Shadenfreude! I can't wait to be able to feel it. DDE: June 7, 2008 - September 5, 2008 (and dealer says its in production but probably early July.)

It's the perfect pet-name for my SO. Hahaha. And the great thing is, it even sounds like a sweet, endearing name to the non-German speaker.
