paddle shifters

When we got our smart to use the paddle shifters you had to move the floor shift lever to the left to go into the paddle shifter mode. The dealer said we had to have a computer upgrade and now the paddle shifters work anytime no matter where the floor shifter is. I do not like the way it is now, an accidental bump on the paddle will downshift you whether you want it or not. Is this the way it is supposed to be?? I liked it better before the computer upgrade.

Yes. The 2.0 upgrade enables paddle shifting even in D. Some people like it, but others may not. I haven't seen anything about it, but a dealer tech 'may' be able to deactivate that feature. It might be worth asking if it really bothers you.

Edit: I actually have a different problem. When I shift using the paddles in D I'll forget and then try to use the stick while in a turn to upshift and knock it into N.

I just decided to stop accidentally bumping it. I like but don't like that feature as well.

the billet shifters look nice! I have never had a problem with accidentally bumping, but sometimes I do forget i am in manual mode (and she starts screaming at me) because I got lazy after a few days of ownership! The nice thing is the "hold +" to go back into drive mode. personally i would keep the upgrade like it is because it is quicker in passing situations to just hit the - and go. I think that was the reason for the upgrade in the first place. I use it all the time on the freeway.

I've bumped my paddle on occasion. While the engine may sound like it whines, keep in mind that the controller WILL upshift at 6500rpm so you won't overrev your engine; similarly, downshifting is automatic to keep you from stalling.

If you notice the symptoms of the bump it's quick to get back to auto mode. If it's in a turn, it might take a little more dexterity but you can just push the gas pedal through it even if it doesn't sound right.
