I agree with SUZE! I also have the 3M Chip Protection that's offered by smartcenter Seattle. I've had it since I picked up my car on 8 May '08. I thought it was worth it for a number of reasons, even though it WAS pricey. First reason.... my car is metallic blue, so it's a painted black panel, and any chips would show through. The second reason, living in the Pacific Northwest, where they use pea-sized gravel on the roads in the winter & refer to it as "sand!" For me, it's a lot easier & cheaper over a number of years to just have the film replaced under warranty "as needed." As someone else said, you're NOT going to replace panels every time you get a chip or two....even if the panel is only $100, that would get prohibitively expensive in a short time, IMHO! Mine has the headlights covered with a much heavier film (and those headlights aren't cheap!!!), the hood, the left and right front fenders going back halfway to the door, the entire black panel on both sides behind the doors, and the trailing edge of each door.....which protects against opening your door into "stuff!" They did the black panels behind the doors because when the "lookey-loos" walk up and look inside, they invariably put their hands on the black portion while they're leaning down and looking in. They found that out pretty quickly at smartcenter Seattle when the black panels started getting marred & scratched right after they opened. So...... I think it's pricey, but worth it over time. I don't really give a lot of concern to what some "guy" says about changing the film every three years, either! :>)
