Paint Sealants???

Alright here is my dilemma folks, I need your advice. First off, I cannot get a car cover because where I park my car I have to display a permit in the window. So I am left with one other option: Paint Sealants.

I have done some research and I have come to these products:

  • Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze
  • Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0

Each product seems to cost the same but the lifetime of the Klasse is twice as long. I am trying to prevent my car from getting Bird Feces damage that has been reported on this forum. Should I spend my time and money with these products? Or should I find a car cover and cut a "window" in it to display the parking permit?

What are others doing at your parking location?

No one has a car cover, I don't think they have used sealants. With my car the last two years no problem has arised as long as I wash off the feces within a week. Will I be safe keeping that idea in mind?

Klasse

I've used the Klasse on the Miata and the only things that it doesn't protect against are stone throws, parking lot dingbats, and small meteorites. You get that rich wet look. If you don't have a garage or time to continually clay and wax, this is a good way to go (IMHO).

Best,

Alright cool, I may go with that. Its less than $20 for a great look. Is it easy to apply? And will it last me through the winter If I apply it in November?

Hey Jeff do you think you could possibly just cut a little box out of the car cover where your permit has to be displayed?
I dont know.. just a thought that popped into my head!

jefferios,

Very easy to apply but you may want to get an old soft toothbrush for nooks and crannies. The Miata was dead easy (vitually no nooks and crannies) and I use Meguires on the vinyl and roof. It can easily last through the winter if you hose off the salts on warmer days.

They don't use salt in Ames, IA in the winter. It keeps the roads in better shape...meanwhile its slippery and more dangerous. You can do the pros and cons to that one. Anyway I am going to get the Klasse All in one and the Sealant combo kit for around $50. From what I have read it seems like the best deal.

Jeff, check out Rejex also - not exactly a sealant but it does leave a very smooth finish and makes anything, including bird droppings, easy to wash off. Link

I've always been skeptical of paint sealants. I've also found that Griot's Garage products are excellent. So When they introduced their Paint Sealant I decided to try it on our Mini.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...C+16+ounces.do

This is the new version with polish.

Our Mini lives outside and although it has a Noah cover on it for storms with high winds (to protect it from flying twigs) and during snow, it is uncovered most of the time unless it's freshly washed. It's dark blue with a silver roof and here we have really bad acid rain.

I clayed and buffed the car (I use a Porter-Cable buffer) and then applied the Sealant a bit over a year ago. There is No water spotting or acid rain damage to the car anywhere. No sap or bug juice spots either. It can also be waxed over so water will bead up and make routine washings easier. The new one-step sealant adds a polish to give that benefit to save a step.

Be sure to clay before applying anything to your paint. You'll be amazed if you've never used paint clay.
